Washington, D.C. —The U.S. House of Representatives Labor, Health and Human Services and Education (LHHS) subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee last week released a draft Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 spending bill eliminating funding for the Title X family planning program and the evidence-based Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) Program. The full House Appropriations Committee is expected to vote on the bill next week, and the U.S. Senate LHHS Appropriations Subcommittee is expected to take up its version of the FY 2019 LHHS bill next week as well.

“While this is hardly surprising and follows the House’s pattern in recent years, we remain disappointed,” said Ginny Ehrlich, CEO of Power to Decide. “We encourage the Senate—as they have done in past years—to fully fund the Title X Family Planning Program and the TPP Program because all young people, no matter who they are or where they live deserve the power to decide if, when, and under what circumstances to get pregnant.”

Power to Decide also urges appropriators to ensure that these programs continue as they have successfully operated in the past, recognizing their critical role in providing information, access, and opportunity.
