Dr. Raegan and Briana DeJesus Get Real on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter

May 28, 2025

It’s a fact that young people want to hear from their parents and other adults in their lives about sex, love, relationships, and how to navigate it all. That’s why we’re so excited when Teen Mom OG Briana Dejesus and MTV asked Power to Decide’s CEO Dr. Raegan McDonald-Mosley to help her tackle a conversation that many families are trying to figure out how to have: how to talk with her 13 year-old daughter Nova about sex and her body.

Briana and Dr. Raegan filmed the conversation a few months ago, and this month, Season 2, Episode 30 of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter aired, showing Dr. Raegan offering tips and advice to Briana – and showing how Briana put her advice into action. When Briana reached out to Dr. Raegan, she was nervous. She wanted to talk with Nova about puberty, consent, and sex, but wasn’t sure where to start. Dr. Raegan met her with empathy, encouragement, real answers, and practical tips. Their video chat wasn’t just informative; it was relatable and honest. It helped Briana overcome her nerves and helped viewers to see how to  show up as a trusted adult for the young people in their lives

Briana did not frame the conversation with Nova as “The Talk,” because there’s no such thing as one single big talk. What Briana modeled was something better: a kickoff to an ongoing discussion that builds and evolves over time, and covers sex, boundaries, health, relationships, and all that comes with it. By asking for help, Briana showed exactly the kind of example we need more of: that no one has to tackle this task alone.

The night the episode aired, Briana and Dr. Raegan reunited for a live conversation on Briana’s and Bedsider’s Instagram channels to pick up where the episode left off. In addition to talking about some unseen moments and answering questions from viewers, Briana opened up about how much her conversation with Nova, and Dr. Raegan’s encouragement, changed things for her and Nova. It wasn’t just a one-time conversation for the cameras. It was the beginning of a new kind of relationship with her daughter, one built on openness and trust. She thanked Dr. Raegan for helping her feel ready and for reminding her that there is no shame in asking for support.
To help viewers learn more about sexual health and kick off their own conversations, MTV, Briana, Bedsider, and Power to Decide shared video clips from the episode and linked to Bedsider and to MTV’s reproductive health resource site

The reaction across social media made it clear how much the conversations in this episode resonated. It also reminded us why these conversations matter, especially now. In a time when access to sex ed is being stripped away in classrooms, families are looking for support, language, and reliable resources to help them talk about it at home. The conversation between Briana and Dr. Raegan has been viewed more than 745K times in social media alone.
Just looking through the comments, it’s obvious that Briana is an excellent example of what it means to step up and be that trusted adult for a young person:

  • “This gave me so many ideas about the sex talk with my girls.”
  • “Thank you for that clip. I have a 12-year-old and didn’t know how to start.”
  • “That conversation was everything. I’m using the same exact words.”
  • “You’re making an effort to break the cycle. Keep it up, girl.”

With sex education under scrutiny in classrooms and being stripped from bookshelves, these conversations are more important than ever. That’s why Power to Decide has worked with MTV for decades to bring those tools to the people who need them most. This episode is just one more example of what it looks like to meet people where they are with information that is clear, factual, and judgment-free.

Briana showed up for her daughter. Dr. Raegan showed up with support. And together, they modeled something that so many families are trying to figure out: how to start these conversations, and how to keep them going.
