Papás Por Conveniencia Delivers Intrigue, Inspiration, and Information
The hit Telenovela Papás Por Conveniencia (“Family of Convenience”) blends gripping storylines and topical health issues together in a compelling mix that brings audiences back and keeps them wanting more. The Spanish-language series was renewed for a second season before its first season wrapped in the US.
Produced by TelevisaUnivision and The Population Media Center (PMC), renowned showrunner and author Rosy Ocampo and her creative team bring to life a family drama/comedy that’s packed with romance, secrets, betrayal, hope, and new beginnings, while seamlessly weaving in themes about relationships, birth control, STIs, gender-based violence, and more. At its heart, the series digs into the meaning of family and gives audiences lots to discuss. It also highlights the importance of open conversations about sexual health, consent, and relationships. Univision brought the series to US audiences in 2025 after its initial run in Mexico in 2024.
Power to Decide is proud to serve as the lead sexual and reproductive health educational resource for US audiences, and is helping to inform storylines in Season 2. Our custom landing page on Bedsider offers Spanish-language resources on topics that come up throughout the series: birth control, STI prevention, pregnancy, relationships, and more. Our page is linked from Univision’s resource page, which the network highlighted on-air, online, and through news programming as stories aired. We are proud to build on our past collaborations with Population Media Center – including East Los High and Crossing the Line – which also had entertainment/education in their DNA and proved to be audience favorites.
Here’s why Papás Por Conveniencia shows that great stories keep audiences watching and talking across cultures, contexts, and families. We can’t wait for Season 2!
Papas por Conveniencia outperformed competitors in both Mexico and in the US, demonstrating that the stories and characters beloved by viewers in Mexico were just as appealing to US Hispanic audiences. Created and produced in Mexico, Papás Por Conveniencia ran from October 2024 through February 2025 on Las Estrellas in Mexico, with nearly 3 million people tuning in to the premiere. The series beat its prime-time competition by more than 1.5 million viewers. When the show aired on Univision and streamed on Vix in the US, it outperformed its competition consistently, and the finale was the top show in its prime-time slot among Hispanic viewers. In its full run, the show made Univision the #1 Spanish-language network in the key 8pm time slot.
Visitors to our custom Bedsider landing page are staying and exploring. The average visit to our Bedsider page for the show was nearly 6 minutes, which is almost twice the average time on educational and health sites. Visits had an extremely high engagement rate of nearly 88%. Since the site was linked from Univision’s resource site, which was promoted on-air and online throughout relevant episodes, we know that on-air scenarios inspired viewers to come to our site and explore. Our custom landing page has not yet been promoted widely beyond the show, so these insights seem to indicate that viewers are interested in learning more.
The most-visited resources on our custom Bedsider landing page were the Birth Control Methods interactive tool and Pregnancy 101, which explains “how it happens, when it happens, and how to make it not happen.” The method explorer enables users to learn in-depth about the full range of available methods, and allows side-by-side comparisons to help users find the methods that best suit their lives and needs. In the US, we know that comprehensive sex education is spotty at best. There is no national standard for sex education and only 30 US states and the District of Columbia require sex education, either explicitly by law or by proxy via enforced state standards. When TV shows connect viewers with helpful information, everybody benefits.
Rosy Ocampo proves once again that education adds value to entertainment. Ocampo, the internationally-acclaimed showrunner and executive producer, literally wrote the book on this subject. As the author of Showrunning for Entertainment with Social Impact, Ocampo brings more than 40 years of experience to storytelling that engages audiences around the world. She is the driving force behind the show’s gripping storylines that are fueled by socially-relevant issues. She knows that emotion drives engagement, and we are seeing evidence of this in increased visits to online resources when highly emotional scenes air.
Univision’s support is key to ensuring that audiences find the resources they need. The network’s on-air integrations, interviews, and social media posts helped drive traffic to the Univision dedicated resource page, which links to our Bedsider landing page and to Love is Respect, for resources to help young people who are experiencing sexual harassment and abuse. Univision’s dedication in and beyond the bounds of the series helped viewers find out about the sexual health and relationship resources available to them in Spanish and English any time, confidentially, and for free.
