Papás Por Conveniencia : Family Drama Meets Social Impact

Power to Decide is thrilled to announce our collaboration with Papás Por Conveniencia, a telenovela airing on Univision in the US that brings educational content into captivating storylines. After a successful run in Mexico from October 2024 through February 2025, the show is now reaching Spanish-speaking audiences in the US on-air and online.  

We hope that this series inspires families across the country to encourage curiosity and have purposeful, respectful, and mindful conversations, the same way it did in Mexico.

The show is produced by Televisa and Population Media Center (PMC), with whom we previously collaborated on East Los High and Crossing the Line. Like those projects, this series weaves vital educational themes into storytelling, covering sex, relationships, birth control, STIs, gender-based violence, and the value of open conversations.

Power to Decide is the show’s primary educational partner for sexual and reproductive health content in the US. We created a custom landing page on Bedsider linked from Univision’s resource page to give viewers relevant information and resources as storylines unfold. We want young people, their parents, and other caring adults to know that their concerns and questions are completely normal, and that Bedsider is here to provide helpful answers and more information. At a time when evidence-based comprehensive sex education is not a reality for many young people in the US, it is more crucial than ever to engage in a respectful and informed dialogue with the young people in our lives, and to encourage them to take an active interest in their health, self-expression, and autonomy.

Univision is promoting the series across its platforms, including on-air and social promos, and in news segments on Despierta America. You can also hear directly from the show’s creator, Rosy Ocampo.  

We encourage everyone to check out the series, whether they grew up watching telenovelas and never stopped, or took a break at some point and now miss the twists and turns (trust us, this show has plot twists for viewers of all ages). For those who have never seen a telenovela before, this is a great show to start with!
