On June 24, 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade with its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. This decision enabled some states to automatically ban abortion via trigger bans and has emboldened other states to take action to restrict access to abortion and other forms of reproductive health care. While the Supreme Court’s decision has returned the question of abortion access back to the states, Congress has the power to enact protections at the federal level. As a result, an array of bills were introduced in the House and Senate in 2022 to protect access to abortion and other forms of reproductive health care.
