POWER TO DECIDE RESPONDS TO THREATS TO OVERTURN THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

March 26, 2019

(Washington, D.C.) — This week, the Trump administration has indicated its desire to fully overturn the Affordable Care Act (ACA). In response, Ginny Ehrlich, CEO, Power to Decide, issued the following statement:

“Today, the ACA, which provides health care coverage for millions of people, remains intact. The ACA has improved women’s health care significantly. Under the ACA, women’s preventive services such as well-woman visits, contraception, mammograms, counseling for STIs, and other services are covered without copay.

“A key provision of the ACA is that it requires insurance plans to cover women’s preventive services, including all FDA-approved birth control methods, with no additional out-of-pocket costs, like copays. This provision has made a difference in the lives of 62.8 million women. It reflects the belief of the majority of people in the United States across political party lines (81 percent) - that birth control is a basic part of health care.

“Rather than focusing on efforts that make it harder for women to access basic health care, we should instead support programs that provide all people with the power to decide if, when and under what circumstances to get pregnant and have a child.”
