One Year After the Dobbs Decision, Reproductive Health is Under Unprecedented Threat

June 13, 2023

WASHINGTON — As the one year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision that overturned Roe v. Wade nears, Power to Decide CEO Raegan McDonald-Mosley, MD, MPH, issued the following statement:

“In the face of the most dangerous attacks on reproductive health in most of our lifetimes, Power to Decide is fighting for policies that extend reproductive rights to all while also ensuring that every person has access to the information they need to make their own reproductive health decisions right now. Amidst the chaos in post-Roe America, malicious disinformation and a constantly-changing legal landscape have plunged the nation into an increasingly dire reproductive health crisis. Women and people of color and people in rural communities who were already facing often insurmountable barriers to accessing abortion — and even birth control — are suffering the worst impacts.

“Since the Dobbs decision, Power to Decide has been working tirelessly to ensure that people have access to accurate information through AbortionFinder, an online tool to locate abortion care. Since June 2022, there have been more than 4 million visits to AbortionFinder; up from less than 800,000 visits in the 20 months before the Dobbs decision was leaked. Those numbers put the magnitude of the crisis and the importance of our work into perspective.

“We will not rest until everyone — no matter who they are or where they live — has control over their bodies and can decide if, when and under what circumstances to get pregnant and have a child.”
