(Washington, D.C.) — Power to Decide is pleased to announce Dr. Vincent Guilamo-Ramos, PhD, MPH, LCSW, RN, ANP-BC, PMHNP-BC, FAAN, will serve as the new chair of Power to Decide Board of Directors. Dr. Guilamo-Ramos has served on the board since 2018 and will succeed Stephen A. Weiswasser. In addition, Bruce Kuhlik will serve as the new vice chair and will succeed Amanda Deaver.

“I am honored to have been chosen to serve as the Chair of Power to Decide’s Board of Directors” said Dr. Guilamo-Ramos. “Inequities in our health care system prevent too many people from accessing the full spectrum of reproductive health services and resources. I look forward to working with my colleagues to help ensure Power to Decide is at the forefront of expanding access to reproductive health care for all. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Stephen A. Weiswasser and Amanda Deaver for their remarkable service and commitment to Power to Decide.”

Dr. Guilamo-Ramos serves as Dean and Bessie Baker Professor at the Duke University School of Nursing and Vice Chancellor for Nursing Affairs, Duke University. In addition, he is the founding director of the Center for Latino Adolescent and Family Health (CLAFH) at Duke University. Prior to his appointment at Duke University, Dr. Guilamo-Ramos held faculty appointments in nursing, public health and social work at New York University (NYU). He is an expert, scholar and leader in adolescent and young adult sexual and reproductive health. Clinically, he specializes in the primary care of adolescents and adults at elevated risk of or experiencing negative sexual health outcomes, in particular HIV and sexually transmitted infections. His research focuses on the role of families in promoting adolescent and young adult health among Latinos and in other underserved communities, with a special focus on preventing HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and improving care outcomes for youth receiving HIV prevention and care services. He currently serves as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA), the HHS Panel on Antiretroviral Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents, the CDC/HRSA Advisory Committee on HIV, Viral Hepatitis and STD Prevention and Treatment and he recently completed service on the NASEM Committee on Prevention and Control of STIs in the U.S. Additionally, he serves as vice chair of the Board of Directors for the Latino Commission on AIDS and is a member of the Board of Directors of the HIV Medicine Association.

Bruce Kuhlik, who will serve as the new vice chair, is the former chief legal officer of Pathfinder International, an NGO focused on improving sexual and reproductive health and rights globally by mobilizing communities. Bruce has been a member of the board for six years serving on the Executive Committee and as chair of the Audit Committee.
