POWER TO DECIDE APPOINTS DR. RAEGAN MCDONALD-MOSLEY AS CEO

November 10, 2020

(Washington, D.C.) — The Board of Directors of Power to Decide is pleased to announce the unanimous selection of Dr. Raegan McDonald-Mosley to be the organization’s next CEO.

Dr. McDonald-Mosley, MD, MPH, who assumes the position on January 4, 2021, is a widely recognized expert in sexual and reproductive health with experience as a practicing OB-GYN and a deep commitment to reproductive health and justice. She currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for Planned Parenthood of Maryland and formerly served in the same role at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. A fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. McDonald-Mosley succeeds Ginny Ehrlich, who served as the organization’s CEO for the past 5 years.

“We are so pleased and excited to announce that Dr. McDonald-Mosley will be the new CEO of Power to Decide,” said Stephen A. Weiswasser, Board Chair. “She is well-positioned to advance and accelerate Power to Decide’s work. In her, we found a leader who not only embraces the critical importance of Power to Decide’s vision, but also demonstrates the ability to be a bold leader capable of accelerating the organization’s efforts so that all young people have the power to decide if, when and under what circumstances to get pregnant and have a child.

“Dr. McDonald-Mosley is a leader committed to expanding and deepening the organization’s commitment to reproductive well-being, addressing critical health disparities and embracing a diverse, equitable and inclusive framework in all of Power to Decide’s work. We are confident that her high expectations will bring an extraordinary and valuable level of expertise, thoughtfulness and vision to the organization,” Weiswasser added.

During her tenure at Planned Parenthood of Maryland, Dr. McDonald-Mosley was a key collaborator in the Baltimore City Health Department’s successful U Choose campaign, which was designed to increase access to all contraceptive methods for young people in the city. Dr. McDonald-Mosley also worked with her team to expand access to contraceptive care for communities throughout Maryland including the creation of a consult clinic to manage complex contraceptive cases. At Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Dr. McDonald-Mosley worked to support and highlight the role of Planned Parenthood providers across the country and within the Federation. She also helped to develop programs to expand access to medication abortion through telehealth and launched the HIV Prevention Initiative to increase access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PREP) within key communities. “I am so pleased and excited to lead Power to Decide into its next chapter,” said Dr. McDonald-Mosley. “More than ever, access to comprehensive reproductive health services is under attack. The work of Power to Decide to ensure that everyone in our nation, regardless of their background or where they live or their income, has access to the care and services they need to design their lives is critical. We must embrace bold and strategic solutions to address the growing health care disparities related to sexual and reproductive health, and I look forward to working with the team and Board of Directors at Power to Decide to make our vision a reality for all.”

The Power to Decide Board of Directors is enormously grateful to our interim CEO, Dr. Gillian Sealy, for her leadership and wisdom during what has turned out to be an extraordinary year for the organization and the nation. Dr. Sealy will continue in her position as Chief Program Officer for the organization.
“Dr. Sealy kept us focused on what matters most—information, access and opportunity to reproductive health services for all young people—while pushing us to dig deeper in our thinking and our actions,” Weiswasser added.

The CEO Search Committee worked with an experienced team at the executive search firm Russell Reynolds Associates led by Jamie Hechinger, leader of the firm’s Social Justice and Philanthropy practice. The process, which placed an emphasis on recruiting from diverse networks and broad outreach of stakeholders, yielded nearly 100 potential candidates. The Committee conducted two rounds of intensive interviews before recommending Dr. McDonald-Mosley to the full Board, which unanimously endorsed her.
