Did you know that teens actually want to hear from their parents and other adults in their lives about sex, love, relationships and how to navigate it all? If you’re looking to get that conversation started, look no further! Relating to popular TV shows can be a natural and fun way to bring up these important topics, which you may otherwise find uncomfortable.

The fourth season on TLC’s Unexpected is back with a new day and time: Mondays at 10/9c. It covers all of these important topics and is an excellent jumping off point to start talking with the young person in your life. And don’t worry if you missed the first half of this season, you can catch up on discovery+

Season four follows young couples on their paths to unplanned parenthood: Jenna (16) and Aden (17), Myrka (16) and Ethan (16), Tyra (19) and Alex (19), and Lilly (19) and Lawrence (19). While their situations all differ, the stories all highlight the importance of talking to the young people in your life about safe sex, healthy relationships and establishing open communication.

As a reminder, here’s where we left off with each of the pairs:

Jenna & Aiden

Jenna and her family finally decide to have a joint baby shower. While she’s happy that everyone will be celebrating together, the pettiness and drama between Jenna’s divorced parents generated by the baby shower result in more strife for everyone and cause a big fight with Aden. Will everyone be able to make peace moving forward?

Myrka & Ethan

When we last saw them, Myrka and Ethan were facing the realities of what it truly takes to be a parent. Faced with the uncertainty of whether Ethan was mature enough to be a dad and if her own mother would lend any support, Myrka was headed to the hospital at the end of the first half of the season. We look forward to following her path as a mom.

Lilly & Lawrence

Compared to her first pregnancy in season one, Lilly feels a lot more supported in her relationship with boyfriend Lawrence. Lilly also thinks that she’s more prepared to give birth this time around, deciding against having an epidural for herself and making other important parental decisions.

Tyra & Alex

With the COVID-19 lockdown looming, Tyra traveled to Miami in the last episode. While she was technically there for a college cheer competition, Tyra was also looking forward to getting a break from her relationship with Alex.

In Monday’s mid-season premiere, we can look forward to two baby showers, Myrka going into labor, and even more conversations about the realities of teen parenthood! We all have the power to be trusted champions for young people in our lives.
