Power to Decide Endorses Campus Accountability & Safety Act

October 4, 2022

(Washington, D.C.) Power to Decide proudly announced its endorsement of the Campus Accountability and Safety Act (CASA) as reintroduced today by Rep. Carolyn Maloney. This bill seeks to combat sexual assault and interpersonal violence on college campuses by developing new resources to protect and empower students; strengthening accountability and transparency at academic institutions, including establishing a uniform process to adjudicate sexual assault cases; and reinforcing penalties for non-compliance.

The following can be attributed to Power to Decide CEO Raegan McDonald-Mosley, MD, MPH:

“College should be an exciting time of growth and learning, but for far too many young people, their ‘college experience’ also includes dating violence or sexual assault.

“Federal law already requires colleges and universities to make a meaningful effort to address these issues on campus, to support survivors and to hold perpetrators accountable. Nonetheless, a recent study found that, among students who identify as female and/or LGBTQ, more than one in five have experienced nonconsensual sexual contact. We have to do more.

“Rep. Maloney’s comprehensive, bipartisan bill would go a long way toward ensuring survivors receive the support and resources they need and making college campuses safer for all students. Power to Decide is proud to endorse the Campus Accountability and Safety Act, and we urge members of Congress to support this critically important legislation.”
