January 2023 Power Player
At Power to Decide, we’re committed to uplifting the many individuals on the ground doing the work that matters most. Each month we highlight an individual who is championing the effort to support young people’s reproductive well-being. Check out this month's Power Player profile.
Kimberly Campbell, NP
Nurse Practitioner, Plan A Health
What work have you done to ensure that all people have the information and access they need to make decisions that align with their intentions and improve their reproductive well-being?
Plan A Health offers free reproductive health care to the Mississippi Delta. Our mobile unit provides diagnostic testing, Pap smears, mammogram referral, STD screening, family planning, and sexual health educational material to everyone who comes to the unit for services. Our mobile unit goes directly into the communities and offers services to eliminate barriers to care.
How did you get started in your field? What is your driving force?
I have always been passionate about playing a part in taking care of and giving back to the community. I am now a part of a team that can take care of these communities on the frontline. My driving force is knowing that I can help and offer services to individuals who cannot afford reproductive health care services due to cost, transportation needs, or conventional clinic hours.
What advice would you give to someone looking to effect change in the field that you currently work in?
I advise someone looking to effect change in this field to always look at each situation with an unbiased perspective.
Why should someone care about ensuring that all people—regardless of who they are or where they live—have the information and access they need to live their best life?
Everyone must have the information and access they need to live their best life because this allows individuals opportunities for advancement in every area of their life physically, economically, emotionally, and spiritually.
