MTV’S 16 & Pregnant is Back for a Five-Week Event

We’re excited that MTV’s 16 & Pregnant will return for a “mom-umental” five-week event starting March 16. Since the start of the series in 2009, Power to Decide has worked closely with the production team, the network, and MTV.com as advisors to this groundbreaking reality show. For us, this collaboration is special because it has kept unplanned pregnancy in the national conversation and has allowed us to help young people better understand the challenges of pregnancy and parenthood.  Through polling, discussion guides, and social media collaborations, we have helped young people and their parents and champions jump-start meaningful conversations about sex, love, and relationships.

Now that Abygail, Kyla, Selena, Shelby, and Taylor are sharing their stories, we wanted to continue our tradition of support that began with the Teen Mom OGs and remind this new generation of teen moms that having open and honest conversations is so important.

So, let’s get the convo started.

As this season of 16 & Pregnant premiers during a pandemic, we want parents and champions to seize the moment. We found that most adults (57%) agree that sheltering in place during the COVID-19 pandemic has provided increased opportunities for conversations with the young people in their lives about sex, love, relationships, and ultimately birth control.

Below are a few prompts to starting a conversation, but for more please visit here

#TalkingIsPower Champion Tip 105, "Remember it's not ONE big talk but an ongoing dialogue."
#TalkingIsPower Prompt 106 "Have your friends discussed anything you have questions about?"
#TalkingIsPower Prompt 107 "What are three things you're looking for in a partner?"

As we get to learn more about each mom, we’re excited to support them and see their journey! Tune in Tuesday, March 16, and follow @PowerToDecide to join the conversation with #TalkingIsPower and #16andPregnant on @MTV. We also want to emphasis that during this time, telehealth is a viable option for those who need to access sexual and reproductive health care. Bedsider, provides a significant amount of helpful information on what is telehealth and what services are available.
