Trump Administration Issues Rules Focused on Eliminating Birth Control And Abortion Coverage

November 9, 2018

(Washington, D.C.) — The Trump Administration this week issued finalized rules that would allow employers to opt out of providing no-cost birth control coverage in their insurance plans based on religious or moral objections. These rules were issued despite two federal courts blocking interim versions of these rules from being implemented. The Administration also issued a proposed rule designed to eliminate coverage of abortion in insurance plans.

“These continued efforts to weaken or eliminate women’s access to the full spectrum of reproductive health services fly in the face of the health care women deserve and want,” said Ginny Ehrlich, CEO of Power to Decide. “All women deserve access to the quality information and reproductive health care they need to support their decisions about if, when, and under what circumstances to get pregnant and have a child.

Ehrlich added. “Given the relentless attacks on women’s reproductive health access, we must show our support for birth control and all that it has helped to make possible for women.  That is why we encourage you to help us fight back by joining us on Thanks, Birth Control Day on Tuesday, November 13 to share your support for access to birth control.”

Thanks, Birth Control Day, catalyzed by Power to Decide, takes to social media annually to celebrate all that birth control has helped make possible for women. This year, Thanks, Birth Control Day will take place on Tuesday, November 13.  To learn how to participate and stand-up for birth control access for all, visit powertodecide.org/thxbirthcontrol.
