Support our Contraceptive Equity Initiative

More than 19 million women of reproductive age living in the US are in need of publicly funded contraception and live in contraceptive deserts, or counties in which they lack reasonable access to a health center offering the full range of birth control methods. For these women getting contraception means having to do more than show up to an appointment. They must find a babysitter, take time off work, or travel long distances to access their preferred birth control method. Unfortunately, contraceptive deserts are just one of the many barriers that can stand between an individual accessing the birth control they want.

A new program by Power to Decide, the Contraceptive Equity Initiative (CEI) aims to better understand and address barriers to birth control access.  Through this initiative we aim to expand research efforts to interpret and further describe the nature of these barriers and learn more about the preferences of people and communities regarding contraceptive access.

Expanding and improving access to contraception has never been more important, which is why a generous donor has chosen to invest in The Contraceptive Equity Initiative.

The CEI also seeks to bolster policy efforts regarding contraceptive access and assemble leaders from state and regional contraceptive access projects to foster shared learning, synergy, and efficiency among individual initiatives.

Understanding and dismantling the many barriers to contraceptive access has never been more necessary. Despite the challenges, our community continues to give us hope for a future where all people have the power to decide. The incredible outpouring of support we’ve seen for birth control access has taught us that together, we are powerful.

But there is still so much work to be done. Vast disparities in access to sexual health information and care, barriers to getting birth control, and unprecedented threats to reproductive rights all mean that your donation to the Contraceptive Equity Initiative has the potential to make a real impact on the lives of people across the country.

With donor support, we can continue to use our expertise, tools, and assets to address barriers to birth control access—for every person in every community. And right now, all gifts to the CEI are being matched, which will double your impact! Every gift made before January 1st will be matched up to $400,000.

Join our donor community today and support reproductive well-being for years to come.
