POWER TO DECIDE PROUDLY ANNOUNCES CONTRACEPTIVE ACCESS FUND

December 3, 2019

(Washington, D.C.) — Power to Decide proudly launches the nation’s first contraceptive access fund to support access to birth control for women in need. Through small and large donations, the fund presents an opportunity to give women across the nation the power to decide if, when and under what circumstances to get pregnant and have a child.

“All too often, low-income women have to make the decision between accessing birth control and paying for their basic living expenses. This is unjust and unacceptable,” said Ginny Ehrlich, CEO, Power to Decide. “Thanks to our new BCBenefits program, women will no longer be forced to make that untenable choice. Power to Decide’s BCBenefits will provide women in need with the ability to access the birth control method they need and deserve.”

Today, nearly 20 million women live in contraceptive deserts—counties without reasonable access to the full range of birth control methods—and many other women lack access to health insurance or cannot afford to pay the direct costs for birth control. To fill these gaps and reduce these barriers, Power to Decide created BCBenefits, a contraceptive access fund to help women with low incomes overcome some of the most commonly-faced barriers in access to contraception, including unreimbursed costs of contraception and transportation.

“Birth control provides tremendous benefits for women and all should have equal access to those benefits, no matter who they are, where they live or what their economic status is,” Ehrlich stated.

BCBenefits relies on generous donors to provide these crucial services to women. Just $50 provides a woman with a full year’s supply of birth control. Larger donations support multiple women and the systems necessary to build the fund.

BCBenefits is made possible due to the support from partners committed to ensuring that all women have access to contraception they need and deserve. Power to Decide would like to thank the following partners: Mountain Philanthropies, Elsa and Peter Soderberg Charitable Foundation, HeyDoctor, Medicines360, Nurx, PRJKTRuby, Twentyeight Health, SimpleHealth and Vagisil.
